Don’t you love fall? The leaves are falling, the weather is turning colder, and something about all of the school buses filling the road reminds me of new beginnings and blank slates.
Fall can also be an increasingly busy season. Summer's slow, relaxed pace is fading, and our schedules are quickly filling up with all sorts of activities.
With everything going on, it can be easy to neglect our well-being. Other things pop up and become more of a priority, pulling our attention away from self-care.
However, keeping up with our well-being and prioritizing self-care are critical to finding success and happiness in life. Keep reading for some of my favorite ways to keep my well-being at the top of my priority list, even when it’s filling up with fun fall-themed events!
Take Advantage of the Cooler Weather
There isn’t much I love more than a long walk in the crisp weather! Exercising outside can be hard in the summer heat but the cooler weather is the perfect time to throw on your sneakers and hit the trails. Whether it’s a walk around the neighborhood or a hike through a local park with a friend, put this on your calendar this fall!
Dive Into Seasonal Flavors
From pumpkin-spiced everything to delicious apple crisps, fall brings so many opportunities to indulge in seasonal fall recipes. Setting some time aside to curl up with a good book and a warm pumpkin spice latte or cooking up a hearty soup is the perfect way to feed your body and soul during a busy time of year.
Remember to Unplug
Sometimes, when life feels really busy, I like to set aside a few hours on a weekend to truly unplug. I silence my phone, turn off notifications, and focus on having quality time with family or friends. With so much on your to-do list, it can feel counterintuitive to take a break, but breaks make you better! Don’t be afraid to unplug and step away for a bit.
Schedule Yearly Doctors’ Appointments
Did your summer fun keep you from scheduling your annual check-up? Fall is the perfect time to check in with your doctor, renew your eyeglass prescriptions, and get up-to-date on your vaccines. All of the back-to-school rush will have died down and the year-end rush to use insurance benefits before the end of the year won’t have started yet. It’s a great time to get an appointment!
Drink Your Water
Don’t skip your hydration just because the leaves are starting to fall! Keeping up with your water intake will go a long way toward keeping your body feeling happy, healthy, and hydrated!
Don’t Skip Your Vitamin D
With all of the pool, beach, and lake days, getting your Vitamin D in the summer is a pretty easy task. As it turns colder, don’t forget to make Vitamin D a priority. Try to spend at least 15-20 minutes out in the sunlight each day and don’t be afraid to talk to your doctor about a quality Vitamin D supplement if you need to!
Make Time for Friends
All those exciting fall activities are even better when you bring a few friends with you! Schedule time to catch a hayride, visit a pumpkin patch, or take a hike with some good friends in the crisp fall air. Your well-being will thank you!
Stay On Top of Hygiene
Fall is a famous time for colds and flu. Staying on top of simple hygiene tasks like handwashing will help you fight off germs and keep your body clean and healthy.
Focus on Gratitude
Instead of focusing on all you need to change, take a page out of the Thanksgiving book and focus on everything you have to be thankful for. Practicing gratitude can go a long way toward shifting your mindset and improving your well-being.
Set Yourself Up for Success By Putting Your Wellbeing First
It’s a common misconception that, if we want to succeed, we have to hustle and grind. After all, how many times have you heard, “I’ll sleep when I’m dead!”
As it turns out, the complete opposite is true! Making your well-being a priority and putting yourself first can help you find more joy and success in your life.
If you need help aligning your to-do list with your priorities and goals, don’t be afraid to reach out! My one-on-one coaching opportunity just might be what you need to finally put yourself first.
